No.1 Courtyard: A Nature-Inspired Club Design

Integrating Architecture and Nature for a Perfect Urban Retreat

The No.1 Courtyard, designed by Ying Zhang and his team at Fenhom·Urodesign studio, is a boutique community entrance lobby and community club located in QingDao City, China. Spanning an area of 2000sqm, this design emphasizes the integration of architecture and nature, creating a space that is perfect, quiet, simple, comfortable, warm, and innovative.

The designer's vision for the No.1 Courtyard was to capture the essence of nature and bring it indoors. The club features a home lobby and an underground pool, gym, yoga room, multi-function room, and underground courtyard. The height of the space reaches an impressive 5600 mm, providing a sense of grandeur and openness.

One of the key challenges in this design was to create a sense of nature within the interior. To achieve this, the designer used wood finishings, marble, brushed stainless steel, and wooden grating. These materials not only add a touch of natural beauty but also create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The underground clubhouse, in particular, offers a quiet and mysterious ambiance. Upon entering the reception area, guests are greeted by soft visual elements inspired by nature, combined with the strength of hard stone. This creates a seamless transition between the outside world and the club's interior.

As guests venture further into the club, they are met with a hallway that leads to the underground pool. The pool area is designed to evoke a sense of tranquility, reminiscent of a bamboo forest. It provides a serene and peaceful space for guests to relax and enjoy a moment of solitude.

The No.1 Courtyard design is not only visually stunning but also functional. It caters to the needs of the urban elite, offering a space for leisure and relaxation. The seamless integration of architecture and nature, along with the fluidity of the space, sets this club apart from others.

With its completion in sight, the No.1 Courtyard is expected to begin construction in October 2020. This design has already garnered recognition and was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award is given to designs that meet professional and industrial requirements, showcasing innovation and practicality.
